PROCESS
My process is centered around craft, sustainability, material care, and regeneration. All garments are hand-made by me with deconstructed used garments, deadstock textiles saved from landfills, and fabric scraps. The processes used to create my clothing are centered on the regenerative design principles of:
1. Use products and materials for as long as possible
2.
3.
4. Regenerate natural systems
My vision for design starts with the idea that we already have enough. This is a seeming contradiction as a designer because our goal is to create new things. To make what hasn’t existed before. This means we have to design with what we already have, and in my opinion, that should be the foundation where all design starts. Rather than a restriction, I think of this as an opportunity to reinterpret beauty and add value. Everything that has already been created was created with a purpose or vision. So as a designer, I get to take that purpose and reinterpret it - whether in form, function, or both. To change it and give it new life. I believe this allows us to look across traditional boundaries as well - limits of gender, culture, and age. It removes limits rather than imposing them.
